my big WIP

yes, our front garden is the big WIP at the moment.....on Saturday retro daddy did some serious digging as our front yard was entirely covered in tambark thanks to the previous owners quick spruce up before putting the house on the market...

So we resurrected the original garden bed (we also found a stone path under all that tambark) and decided we could achieve half the bed on Sunday afternoon. We (ok.... who am I kidding, retro daddy did this part) dug in lots of composted manure and I then planted a mixture of flowers, vegetables and herbs.

I then mulched it all over (yes I did this part) with some sugar cane mulch and here is the result......next weekend we'll get stuck into the other half of the garden bed and then it will be time for some turf and a picket fence! Its only taken us a year to get around to it but I'm finding it very satisfying and keira loves helping!

And I'm drawing the big draw tonight so hope you've left a comment! I think its a retro mummy world record number of entries!

  1. Great work guys. I'll send Keira some seeds off our giant sunflowers from last year. The kids love watching them grow.

  2. Great family team work. The garden is looking great. Just think how wonderful it will be in a year too with all the plants growing and lots of color.

  3. I really like the idea of mixing flowers, herbs and vegetables! A friend of mine did that too at her place!

Hope you have a great summer. On our side of the planet, there's about a month and a half left to spend as much time as possible outside!

  4. Oh don't you love those post sell spruce ups and what they hide ... i have had this house 10 years and the front yard spruce up is an ongoing process, not much ever getting done, so from my perspective you have done really well!

  7. Don't you just love working in the garden? Somehow there is not much more relaxing for me than that. The sun on your face, your hands in the mud, soar muscles at the end of the day, but all this combined with an oh so clear head. Love that!
