the blanket is done

Thank you for all your kind birthday wishes! it was a nice day and we finished it with a batch of my yummy cupcakes...iced of course. There were quite a few left over in the fridge but one hungry daddy polished them all off...mental note to make 2 batches next time.

I enjoyed some quiet time after church to finish off this lap blankie and photographed it complete with some white icing on the table from sticky little fingers...

21 today

ok well 33 today.....I honestly still feel like I'm in my 20's...thankfully the scales told me this morning I weigh what I did in my 20's before kids...woohoo its only taken me 3 years and 3 kids to get there!

its just a normal day at home with the kids plus a touch of shopping, some birthday cake baking, quick trip to mass for Ash Wednesday ( I can't believe I forgot shrove tuesday yesterday....did you have pancakes?) and then my favourite seafood pizza for dinner

There was an hour where I thought I was going to be suprised big time.....when I asked were there any suprise presents retro daddy told me there was a big suprise in my sewing room....whaaaaaaaaaaaaat I was thinking how did he know which model I wanted or get that in the door without me seeing it etc etc ....turns out he was talking about that black dress. I told him not to do that to me again...

thankfully I treated myself yesterday to some sparkly new ballet flats....keira is in love with them too....

scrap quilt blocks

yesterday was just one of those days, the babies were teething, Keira just wanted to spend the day at the park and mummy had over 6 loads of washing to catch up on and just wanted to have her morning shower!

while everyone had their afternoon nap (this is rare for keira), I made these 2 scrap quilt blocks for my quilting group because it was becoming clear that I just wanted to spend the night having a nice long shower and lie on the couch watching desperate housewives and the oscars...............and thats what I did and it was good!

boxes for bushfire victims

this afternoon I dropped off our donations for the bushfire victims.....thank you to Anita, Claudine and Cass for your donations...I added some more items (especially as I am the queen of stockpiling nappies) and boxed them up complete with tatty sticky tape on the side of a box (ok well I took that off once I realised it was there!)

I added this blankie made by mum and we dropped them off to Sara....and how cool that donations were so generous that Sara was lent a warehouse until delivery to whittlesea this Tuesday!

oh and we also did a mini portrait this afternoon as I needed to submit a photo of the family for a newsletter.....well this is the best I could manage of all 3 keeping still and looking at the camera...

the day was completed with a quick call to emergency about an hour ago to check we didn't need to bring Keira in.....she fell off the couch onto the hardwood floors resulting in the biggest blue bump you've ever seen on her head. I am now monitoring her every movement to check she is ok! phew, now where is that big block of chocolate I need....I think I may have a box of roses somewhere that need opening.....

crocheting for the cause

yep no need to mention where this new crocheted blankie will be going...I hope it will keep someone warm and ease some pain.....I'm loving the colours which are all just odd balls grabbed from my stash in a hurry.

My mum who is flat on her back for a few weeks after an operation on her leg (again) has also offered to crochet one too which is great and will keep her occupied! If a whole blanket freaks you out and you're on ravelry then get involved with making 12 inch squares that can be knitted, crocheted or quilted...or why not organise your own blanket amongst friends....

sydney ladies you can help the bushfire victims

I have just received this genuine request from one of my friends and fellow twin mummies so if you are in sydney and want to help here you go! I'll be getting my box organised this week...........

Hi.

Yesterday I spoke with the Diamond Creek YMCA – a local community centre offering shelter for victims of Victoria's most devastating fires. They told me of the genuine and ongoing need for personal hygiene products for men, women, children, and babies.

The simplicity of this request really challenged me and I have chosen to mobilise my friends, neighbours, and local community to collect and fill as many boxes as possible with personal hygiene products. I am inviting you to also mobilise those in your world and to join me in a 10 day challenge. Starting today - Wednesday 11 February 2009 and ending Sunday 22 February 2009.

The personal hygiene products that are requested include:

• Toothbrushes and Toothpaste
• Shampoo, Conditioner and Liquid Body Soap
• Razors, Shaving Cream, and Aftershave
• Deodorant, and Moisturiser
• Tampons, Pads, and Liners
• Nappies, and Wipes
• Baby Formula and Bottles
• Underwear and Socks
• Face Washers and Towels
• Blankets

All of these items (excluding blankets, towels, and face washers) are to be unused with packaging and seals intact. Blankets, towels, and face washers are to be in good condition.

I am requesting that you self pack a medium box with your choice of the above personal hygiene items. It is important that these boxes are well packed with no empty space, they are sealed appropriately, and a list of contents is adhered to the top of the box.

All boxes must be delivered to me by 9pm Sunday 22 February 2009

In support of this, Laurence Hawke from Rockatoo Truckin has generously committed to deliver all boxes collected. Pick up is scheduled for Tuesday 24 February 2009.

For other businesses and individuals wishing to support this initiative, or to discuss ways you can mobilise the people in your world, please contact me by email sara@thebuckland.com

Your partnership and generosity is appreciated.

Sara Buckland'

Wow, what a great way to help and do something! If you would like to help out and need the delivery details just leave a comment with your email and I'll get back to you. I'm happy to receive donations here on Sydney's northern beaches (or through the post) and will take them to my friend on the 22nd. Don't have enough for a box don't worry I'll do that for you...just ask for my address!

bushfires

all of my prayers and thoughts are with our fellow australians affected by these terrible bushfires. Next week I will join my new quilting group making scrap quilts to be sent down to victims and I'm pleased that hubby made a donation today for us at work where they are matching all staff donations dollar for dollar.....I know I'm not the only one still in shock that this is happening to our beautiful country and wanting to do so much more....

patternmaking 101

I went along to my first patternmaking class on saturday and realised I'm glad I paid attention in maths class. I was dividing this, adding a bit here, doing 45 degree angles, erasing here, ruling there...my homework is to make a sleeve block. I'm loving my class, my japanese teacher who goes a mile a minute, the fact I get out of the house on a saturday morning for 2 hours on my own and get a taste of patternmaking with other like minded ladies and the fact its not as hard as I thought it would be!

LBD

there was a time when there was more than one LBD (aka little black dress) in the wardrobe...I'd wear them to work all the time and especially on a Friday with a little sequined cardy and be ready for drinks after work....sadly I'm no size 6 anymore so I passed on a lot of my LBD's to skinny people......but then I saw this one at the shops and went home and realised I really wanted it so back we went the next day...

and so I caved and I'll be wearing this to the wedding because a) I'm a sucker for ruffles b) hubby bought it for my birthday c) its just so darn cute with silver heels and a little clutch and d) its an extra small....ok well its a big make and all the sizes are stated smaller probably to make you feel good about yourself...but I'm ok with that.

quilting group

Well I had a lovely time last night at quilting group....I didn't know what it would be like or whether I'd be the youngest by a mile but I'm proud to report it was lots of fun with super friendly ladies and by the end of the night I felt like I'd known them all for years..and although I'm the absolute beginner compared to these ladies there was lots of inspiration.

I took along this wall hanging (the most traditional thing I think I've ever made) that has been sitting gathering dust for over a year. I hope to finish this little one during the week.....don't look at my applique as I'm definitely a machine appliquer

quilt in progress

there is a quilt in progress on the sewing room floor...when finished it will fit the single bed in the room. I decided to use a bit of everything and it will be my biggest quilt to date. I'm joining a quilting group tomorrow (located a convenient 5 minutes away) so hope to have it finished to sit and hand quilt a floral design all over it......yes that will be a lot of flowers!

and here is the stash clean up in progress..the fabrics are piled two deep and there is still a bed covered in piles of fabric too...its good reason to stop buying for a while....I can't believe the stash only started two years ago...whooooooops
