I'm a real sticky beak and love knowing lots about the blogs I read so thought I'd write my own 'About me' page for my new look blog!!!!! Go on and write your own, it's fun!!!!
So hi, I'm Corrie (you already knew that) and live in Sydney, Australia with my gorgeous husband and 3 beautiful children. I live everyday for my family and am totally devoted to them, they come first and always will. When I'm not cooking, cleaning, changing nappies or playing with them then I'm crafting. I can't pick a favourite but I love to sew, quilt, knit, crochet, stitch and do a bit of baking and shopping too!
I'm a qualified accountant by trade and worked in investment banking here in Sydney as well as London. I married an accountant (ha ha very funny I know) but after 10 years in the city I knew that I didn't want the long hours and a career anymore so left work and started having babies. I didn't expect to have 3 so close together but they are a blessing to us and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I try not to whinge on my blog about the hard times with the twins but if I make it look easy I don't mean to. The last year and a half have been hard work but it's just starting to get a little easier and I love my life so that helps. Am I done yet having children? No, I think one more would be lovely but not just yet!
I started sewing like most people in year 7 home economics and was absolutely hopeless! I'm surprised I even passed and scraped through making a skirt and quilted cusion. I didn't sew again until I was at uni and decided that doing a major in accounting was going to get a little bit boring however necessary it was. I took a sewing class at tafe, bought a shiny new bernette and started sewing cute little skirts, bags and shorts. Sometimes my uni friends would even pop over for a bit of sewing too. I didn't start sewing again until I discovered Amy Butler in 2005 and started buying her fabrics and patterns and got the machine out again. I had keira and started sewing again and haven't stopped since.
My first quilt was for an Essential Baby Doll Quilt Swap a few years ago and I've been an on and off again quilter but have really taken to it recently and am just addicted. It's a great way to use up my stash and the results are so satisfying.
I now sew on a Brother Innovis 600, it's a nice modern machine with lots of nice features I love. I find it easy to use and also have a new Brother overlocker too. I'd like to get a faster machine for my quilting some time this year but we'll see how we go.
I started knitting in primary school when we were all taught one winter but I never did finish the legwarmers or baby matinee jacket I hoped to make. I did make a scarf or two from memory. Many many years later living in London, I discovered Debbie Bliss and Rowan and retaught myself to knit and haven't stopped since. I'm fairly new to crochet but love it and its a fast way to use up your stash.
My weaknesses are craft books and magazines, fabric, nice soft yarn (so I guess you could say shopping), dresses, coffee, anything sweet, sushi, anything pink, babies (I'd have 10 more if I could) and of course my own little darlings.
So that's me in a nutshell! I love my life and wouldn't have it any other way and thank goodness for my blog and wonderful friendships I've made online!
Thanks for that Corrie. Its nice to read about the people I follow on blogs. Your quilts are inspiring, I am not into knitting so much though, I still havent finished a little jumper I started knitting while pregnant with my 16 yr old son ;-)
ReplyDeleteCorrie you are so very sweet to share some of your life and experiences with us. My brother in law had twins and then another child soon after and I remember spending many days over there helping out, three little ones keep you on your toes and seeing the wonderful things you achieve with them you are truly inspirational.:)
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this Corrie. Lovely! I feel like I got to know you a little better.
ReplyDeleteI found writing my about me page hard. Blogging is kind of narcissistic but writing an about me page felt even more so. Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on myself about it!
I hear you on having twins looking easy (sometimes) but not being. My husband put it really well to his little sister recently 'Don't be fooled, you don't realise how much work it takes to make it look that easy' It's so true, the easier it looks the more thats going on unseen.
ReplyDeleteAccountant hey?! I'll forgive you ;) Lovely to get to know you some more and can't WAIT to MEET YOU!!!!! xox
ReplyDeleteLovely to know more about you, isn't it interesting that so many of us discovered or rediscovered our craftiness after having children?
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to read more about you. I'm such a sticky beak too and love details! :)
ReplyDeleteLoved the nutshell. Thanks for sharing. Amazing how those kids can bring out your inner sewing guru
ReplyDeleteWell i know you so i'm lucky!! You didn't mention too much about your interesting childhood, brother & sister, moving, changing schools . . . i want to know MORE about little girl Corrie!!
ReplyDeleteCan't tell you how many crafty types come from non sewing backgrounds. I hated home science & textiles at school - it was for the girls who wanted to get married & have children, so NOT me!! Of course i married my teenage sweetheart & popped out 4 children straight out of Uni, now how is the happy home maker who sews for a living??
An accountant married to an accountant, that's original, he he!! Love Posie
I think you did rather well writing your about page Corrie. It is nice to find out more about the people behind the blog and yes we dont always share the icky stuff but sometimes that is nice isnt it, a place to escape a little bit or share something good with your friends. I dont know how you manage to get so much crafting done with 3 little ones, they must behave a lot or they have been well trained to go to sleep early, lol!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat read Corrie, lovely to know a little more about you. I'm a sticky beak too, and love to visit peoples profile pages on blogger, flickr or etsy to know a little more about them. I'm always disappointed if there isn't any info on them, as it really is like the first meeting/ first impression of someone when you're travelling thru cyber space.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kelly :-)
Well, so happy to meet you Corrie LOL! That was a fun read -- and you'll be happy to know you have lots of company with all of your weaknesses!
ReplyDeleteHi Corrie - felt I needed to give you a warning. I had 3 children under 13mths. As they get older, it becomes a little less physically tiring but mentally!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell that's my warning
But it was fun and I did love those days of old (for me)
Thanks for that. It was so nice to read more about your background and life. I agree too that I love reading about other people's background and get so disapointed when there is no info about them.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to learn more about you Corrie! I could relate to a lot of it...especially the crafting. Loving your blog as always x
ReplyDeleteHow nice to read a bit more about the woman behind the blog!
ReplyDeleteLove the new look blog. Very nice.
