emerson is six weeks

and is one happy and healthy baby! And hungry.....always hungry! He is on formula top ups to keep his tummy full and I'm sticking with the breastfeeding which is something I couldn't do with elodie but am really working on with this little guy! The feeding itself is easy but he just wants so much.......but we're happy and it's working so we're sticking with what's working

A few observations
- chocolate is wonderful and at the moment it's Cadbury Dream white chocolate that I'm loving

- I usually gain 3 kgs when I leave hospital but am happy to report that despite the love of chocolate I haven't gained anything.....so far

- I'll take breastfeeding poo over formula poo any day (did I just say that???)

- my gym membership is officially off suspension but I haven't worked out how I will actually get time to go to the gym

- don't have your baby at year end if your husband is an accountant. You'll never see him and he'll be just as tired and cranky as you are - but of course he's doing a wonderful job at home and working very hard for us! retro daddy reads my blog too

- small bags of chips, $1 coins and poppers are great bribes for my bigger kids

- long hot showers and dishwashers are so under rated

Good Morning

Emerson is definitely my last baby! He completes the family and it took his arrival to make me realise we are a full house!

  2. That first photo looks like your Husband. Long hot showers are bliss. I would love a dishwasher, one day I counted five wash-ups! It's usually two.

  3. I will never complain about not having a dishwasher again! There are only 4 of us, but washing dishes takes up so much time that I could be doing more interesting things in! Fingers crossed things keep getting easier from here and you get that long, hot shower soon!

  4. Lovely. And nice to hear what it takes to feed baby. I inhaled cheese and crackers and never lost all the baby weight till I weaned. With my twins, ones couldn't feed adequately by six weeks, went on formula and the other went on fully breastfeed for a while. It's al so different baby to bay.

  5. I assume you have seen a lactation consultant to assist you to increase your milk supply. Once you start supplementing with formula Emmerson will feed less often at the breast and your supply will not increase and it may even decrease. He may come to prefer the bottles as well.
To stimulate your supply you need to put him to the breast more often. Your breasts will produce more milk within an hour of the last feed. I found a day of sitting around just breastfeeding always worked. Hard I know with other children at home. Breastfeeding works on supply and demand. Most women find they have more milk in the morning and you can always pump after you have done the first feed. You can then use this milk to supplement in the evening if necessary. Giving a supplement by spoon or medicine glass avoids the baby coming to prefer the bottle. The pumping will also stimulate your breasts to make more milk.
If your supply is really low and it sounds like yours is not, given his weight gain, there is a medication called domperidone which can help.
I expect you know the best place to get good breastfeeding advice is the Australian Breastfeeding Association.

  7. Happy six weeks, your boy is so handsome. I had to supplement my daughter's milk too, they're such greedy buggers. As long as he's healthy and happy that's all you can ever ask for.

  9. Breastmilk poos are divine aren't they? Well, not that you could label poo as divine, but incomparison to all other poo, breastmilk poo is certainly the best kind :)

  10. Hey Corrie, wow how fast has 6 weeks flown past!? Emerson is just sooooo adorable. I can see some of Finn's looks there too. I love that in my own kids, that little expression or mannerism that reminds you of their sibling connection :) Cute blog post too. Thanks for your honesty about the realities of day to day living with a larger family, this is one reason I love to check in on your blog, apart from the pics of your gorgeous kiddos of course!! Take care Corrie and thanks again for sharing :) Big hugs JettsXOX

  11. He is such a cutie! I'm a first time mum to Luka who is also 6 weeks today. I am so in agreeable with all of your points - especially the long hot shower!! I'm really in awe of anyone that can juggle more than one little person - I guess we can get better with practice :-)
