Once upon a time there was a mummy of one. She loved to take her little girl to the zoo and it was always a fun outing. They'd take their time walking around the zoo, mummy would have a coffee as they walked around, they'd pick out a toy and come home. Then that mummy had a few more babies and going to the zoo became a major exercise before we've even left the house involving planning, snacks, compromises, tears in the gift shop and a whole lot of patience. Oh and no time to walk around the zoo with a hot drink. Yes that mummy is me. Now a mummy to 5.

but the little ones just love the zoo and retro daddy and I do make the effort to take them. We've just learnt to be very focused on what we are going to see, where we will eat lunch and what time we will leave. And last sunday we took the whole crew to the zoo and since it was such a perfect day so did the rest of sydney! I just know that the people in cars next to us are staring at us to see how many more children get out of our car!
so I used it as an opportunity for my little posers to show off their outfits. Finn is wearing his new shirt and cargos and looking very smart! The girls are wearing their BIG W tees......well Keira is wearing her new $4 tee and we couldn't find Tillie's new one which has somehow got lost between the clean clothes piles and her bedroom. But you know what - now you know we live in the real world, where nothing is perfect and laundry goes missing even when it is really important to wear for a blog post! So Tillie is wearing her t-shirt from the last BIG W post we did with a skirt made by mummy.
Can you believe Finn's outfit was just a smidge under $24! He loved wearing it and it looks a lot more expensive than it cost. The cargos are really well made and are going to be great with lots of his other shirts and tees in his wardrobe. This was definitely my favourite purchase!
And I loved this photo oportunity to get a snap of the twins and a penguin. It takes a lot of co-ordination to get my little ones standing together let alone get an animal in the picture too. This one is a keeper!
This time around we learnt to walk straight down to the bottom of the zoo to start looking at the penguins and seals.
and this is still elodie's favourite spot at the zoo!
I used waiting for the bathroom as an opportunity to take a few pictures. Elodie's outfit came in at $32 and I had her layered up as it's still a bit chilly here at the moment. I know I'll get a lot of value out of this outfit as I can mix n match the top she's wearing with the leggings and other pink things in her wardrobe. You'd never know she was on antibiotics and recovering from middle ear infection in both ears from these photos. She never stops smiling!
and if you've never been to Taronga zoo then one of the best things to do is enjoy the view!
and of course the animals are there too

Now on this visit I did things a little differently by taking our own lunch with us. I'm usually so exhausted and busy getting us out the door that adding a picnic lunch to the mix just tips me over the edge. But I sent retro daddy up to the shops the night before. And everyone was much happier as we got to sit outside, eat lots of healthy food (we usually have hot chips) and I could look at the harbour bridge instead of other people eating their hot chips! I'm never buying lunch there again, this is definitely the way to go.

And that was our day at the zoo where we put our new BIG W clothes to the test and enjoyed a day out! It's hard work but always worth it and I do know that we are making memories for our little ones at the same time. Plus they all fell asleep before bedtime which was a nice treat for our sunday night.

Thank you BIG W! And readers don't forget to enter my giveaway and win a $100 BIG W giftcard here.

ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great fun and very busy day. Just out of interest do you ever do hand-me-down clothes with your gang? X
ReplyDeleteSounds great fun. Enjoyed the post.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adorable, but you forgot to include a picture of Emerson at the zoo!!!!It looks as if you ONLY have four cute kids!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Grandmother of 10 adorable grandchildren in the States. The oldest is 9 and the youngest is 1 year old. Keeps us busy.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog. It reminds me of the wonderful years of raising our 4 children.
I especially liked today's post. My husband and I visited the Toranga Zoo when we visited in 2008.
Keira is a natural born model with her poses while Finn seems to shy away from the camera!
ReplyDeleteI'm still yet to take Sunny to the zoo... We went to Phillip Island down in Victoria a year ago and the Penguin March there is fantastic! Your kiddies would definately love getting up close and personal there!
P.S. Loving the clothes... I bought Sunny's entire summer preschool wardrobe from Big W this week... Everything goes like hotcakes there!
Awesome photos Corrie of the kids and the scenery, their BIG W clothes look awesome.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous kids...I love the poses...and of course the clothes are great!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was a wonderful day!
Love this post Corrie. What is it with Keira and all the funny poses? Hilarious! I know what you mean about being stared at everywhere you go with a large family! Large family including triplets, I have no anonymity anymore. I feel like a circus every Sunday when we walk (late often) into church! But wouldn't have it any other way! I love Finn and Tillie's outfits best.
ReplyDeleteAhhh Corrie, your posts always put a smile on my face! I have a house of tired, whingy, sick little kiddies at the moment, so this post reminds me we have better days like Zoo trips to look forward to. Big Hugs XO Jetts
