Win Comfort Pure and a $500 pumpkin patch voucher

If there is one downside to having such a gorgeous large family, it's the laundry. The sheer volume of washing I have to get through each week kills me. I don't mind the putting in the washing machine and hanging out on the line but if someone could invent a machine that took it off the line, folded it and put it in the correct wardrobe - well I'd buy it. It's never ending in this house......7 people no matter how big or small make for a lot of washing.  And let's not even go there to talk about rainy days, sickness, broken washing machines or when the hot water system died 2 days before emerson was born and what those events do to your workload.

washing
yes this is how I get laundry out on the line these days, with my little buddy on me

And so while I like to think that I'm quite the expert on laundry for the family I've never used fabric conditioner before. Just regular powder..............and lots of it. We go through at least 6kgs of powder each month. And so I had to read the instructions on the bottle to see where to put it in my machine. The lovely people at Omo sent me out some Comfort and Comfort Pure to try out and I'm a convert to the Comfort Pure. Everything is now smelling beautiful and is so soft. Take my big thick pink polka dot dressing gown that I'm wearing now. It smells so good - like flowers and baby powder all rolled into one and the smell is supposed to last up to 14 days. And it's perfect for all of emerson's little clothes and hand knits which are now smelling lovely too.

the Comfort goes in the centre thingy

Comfort Pure is made for sensitive skins and is great for babies and children. Plus it smells soooo good. Even the actual laundry room smells nice since I've started using it. And an unexpected benefit is that I've finally gotten rid of the stinky running clothes (retro daddy's of course, not mine) and some smelly towels that no amount of powder could get smelling lovely. I'm looking forward to putting some of my handmade quilts in the machine to get them smelling lovely too. Now I find the smell of the Comfort Pure is a little gentler than the rest of the Comfort range which I also got to try so if you're a little sensitive to smells then this might be what you're after.

if you're going to take a picture like this, please make sure you take the bottles off the machine before you leave the room! I just heard these bottles fall to the floor as the machine was going!

And thanks to the lovely people at Omo I have a special prize up for grabs for one lucky retro mummy reader - some Omo Sensitive and Comfort Pure as well as  a $500 Pumpkin Patch voucher to spend on your family. All you need to do is tell me if you use fabric conditioner and why and I'll pick a random entry this time next week. Please make sure that you are an Australian resident and leave your email address or blog in the comment so I can contact the winner.

Good luck...............

I also received a pumpkin patch voucher and Comfort Pure for this post - I'll be trying to save my voucher for Christmas time - if I can wait that long.

  1. I've never used fabric conditioner but with my little man on the way, I've resurrected the knitted cardis my mum made 5 years ago and need to find a way to make them soft again after each wear (they get a lot of wear!). I was always of the mindset that it won't stay clean long enough to be appreciated by the kiddies if I used conditioner...!

Oh...the PP voucher would come in handy! We don't have a store near our home and my children are either a size too small or too big so I am reluctant to buy online before they try! It would make our next trip to the big smoke all the more exciting :)

  2. I like to use fabric conditioner on our towels as there's nothing nicer than the fresh smell of a clean soft towel after a hot shower. Like you guys, our washing never ends and with our latest addition (number 6) our machine never rests. A Pumpkin Patch voucher would rock my world after months of doing it tough with unemployment too. What an awesome prize! xox

  3. I don't use fabric conditioner. No reason other than speed I guess. With 4 little boys about I tend to run into the laundry, throw everything in the machine, toss in a scoop of detergent and switch it on before dashing out to see what mischief they've gotten into in my brief absense!

  4. I have never used fabric softener because not only is it another thing to remember when doing the laundry, it is heavy to carry when you take your grocery shopping home on the bus! Comfort Zone looks like it comes in a small bottle so it might be a better choice than some of the other brands - metzdorf at hotmail.com

  6. I use fabric softener because I love the smell. I use the same one that my Nana did - it reminds me of her!

  7. I have never used fabric softener and I have a front loader and don't know where to put it! I will be buying some of that next time I'm shopping though, your description of the smell sounds lovely.

As for the PP voucher - that would come in very handy with a 4 year old and 2 year old twins! :) Thank you

  8. I love using fabric conditioner , with 6 of us there is lots of dirty clothes and bedding! I love to get into a freshly washed bed and smell the lovely fabric conditioner on the sheets. I have just stocked up on 6 x 6 kg boxes of omo, I found a bargin at Harvey Norman of all places!! I bought a new dryer there and I really love the smell of clothes after using fabric conditioner and dried in the dryer yum!

  9. I do love to use a bit of fabric conditioner. There's nothing like sweet smelling snuggly soft clothes. There's nothing like a cuddle from your little ones but isn't it lovely when they smell delicious too? The voucher would be sooo wonderful. I'm a stay at home Mummy and having to live on just Hubby's wage can mean being quite strict with the spending so the chance to have $500 to spend just on goodies for my girls would be amazing :)

  10. I love fabric conditioner! particularly for towels and linen!

  11. I'm the same as you, love dumping things into the machine, love hanging out clothes, hate folding and putting away! I hate even more hanging out hubby's work shirts and basketball singlets that are washed and dont smell clean. I don't use fabric softener as I just thought it was a gimmic, but I just might go and try this. Thanks for the recommendation! Imogen would love the PP vouchers for summer since I gave away all Beth's baby clothes!

  12. hi Corrie, we have just been away and it was bliss having laundry done for $1 a kilo! Bck to reality i use fabric softner mainly as it just smells so good! Another tip is to leave the soft squishy pack under a car seat and it makes your car smell good! ( not sure if i would like it popping though!). Thanks for the giveaway it is fabulous. Bron

    Thanks corrie

  15. OMG i so used to be a fabric softner queen ( i used LUX pure soap flakes, but u had to add them to warm water first to desolve them before adding them to the wash). gosh it was an ordeal but as they have grown up i have become abit of a slacker.
but you reminded me of how, not just the clothes smell and feel but the whole house almost smells that way too.
best be adding it back into my groceries this week.

  17. HATE putting laundry away..it's best to take straight off the line fold next to the line and put away straight away..or it sits there for weeks at my house . . .I use fabric conditioner as I think it's lovely to have clean smelling clothes . .and I don't iron them x Rebecca x

  18. Sadly haven't used fabric conditioner yet since I don't find the use for it. Really love to see the difference however :)

  21. I use fabric conditioner when I remember but most of the time my machine doesn't take it so I don't always bother but I do like to use it with towels. A Pumpkin Patch voucher would be great with the new baby here shortly.

  22. I have never used fabric conditioner before, but it sounds like I am missing out! Might be just the thing to get rid of the hubby's stinky clothes

  23. I don't normally use fabric softener and had never really questioned why, another thing to remember I guess! It could be just what I need to wash my new bubba's clothes in- Max who is 6 weeks old. We already use omo sensitive powder as me and all the children have sensitive skin. And a pumpkin patch voucher would be heaven with 4 kids, I love the patch!

  24. I love using fabric softener on my towels and dressing gowns - it leaves them soft and cuddly ( sounds like an ad doesn't it? but it's true) but I might have to switch brands because Comfort Pure sounds lovely and the fact the scent lasts longer sounds great! As for the voucher - you've seen Pumpkin Patches beautiful baby clothes and gorgeous little dresses for little girls. I love the fact that they have so many cute clothes for boys and girls!

  25. I've never used fabric conditioner but you've twisted my arm with you comment about how nice your laundry smells now - I'll give it a try just to get rid of my stinky laundry!
Im sure a PP voucher would come in handy here with an 19 month old and another bub due in the next 7 weeks.
Good luck saving yours till Christmas!

  30. I used to always use Fabric softener, but then I started to forget to put it on my shopping list - I do love it when I remember as it definitely makes the clothes smell so much nicer, will have to try out this new one :)

  31. i love to use fabric softener on our towels and sheets - especially during winter when our washing is dried on indoor drying racks. We lose our sitting room to the washing/ drying during winter, but i do love the fresh smell that wafts through the house from the fabric softener fragrances - lovely!

i also use it when washing woolens and knitted things - after all the work that goes in to making them, the least i could do is give them some TLC with some softener(especially after brutal treatment from the children!).

the only hiccup is that some brands so irritate my children's skin - i would be keen to try out a product that cares for sensitive skins. I'll be looking out for the OMO brand next time i shop.

  40. I can't believe I'm writing this, but as of yesterday, I've finally caught up with my washing! Sad. But. True. With no clothes dryer but all this lovely Spring-like weather, it was a blessing.

Anyway, I stopped using Fabric Conditioner because of my and 2yo toddler's sensitive skins and I suffer from headaches if any fragrance was overpowering - from Perfumes to Oranges. However, I'm going to give this new one a try because my Fiance's clothes need that extra TLC. Especially since he's such a hardworking provider for us and can't help his Scottish-roots of sweating.

  41. I LOVE fabric softener!!! I used to love the concentrated squishy satchel type cause you could always get a good sniff while out doing your shopping (weirdo, I know lol), but if you're like me and buy bulk when things are on special and then forget, after a while the plastic erodes and they leak and make a sticky mess, so now I buy the bottles.

And Pumpkin Patch combined with fabric softener = bliss!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh I LOVE Comfort!! I use it all the time-and the smell lasts alot longer than the 14 days! I hadn't seen the Pure version though!! Sounds fabulous.

  43. I have to admit to being a 'fabric softener virgin', having never used it before. I guess I just never really knew what to do with and how it would help me. So this post has been enlightening and with three kiddies, including a newish bub, sounds like I need to give it a try. Maybe I could use it to wash all those Pumpkin Patch clothes I could get with that fabulous $500 voucher ;-)

  44. I, also have never used fabic conditioner but have thought of it often as I passed it in the supermarket. With 4 children I do heaps of washing. love hanging it out, not so keen on distributing it :(

  45. I used to use fabric conditioner and now after reading this post I think i might go back to it.
I don't mind the washing, hanging it out and taking it off the line. Its the folding and putting away that gets up my nose! We are renovating our laundry at the moment so I'm walking next door to do our washing......its been 3 weeks and I'm well and truly over it!

    ReplyDelete

  49. I use fabric softener in every single wash! I love it, I love the smell it gives to the clothes, especially my fireman husband who's clothes can come home pretty darn stinky! With a household of 7 we are washing everyday, I currently have 4 loads out in the winter sun trying to dry, so I can give our dryer a break!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I've never tried fabric conditioner, maybe I should try some. Laughing at Retrodaddy smelling like flowers!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't use fabric conditioner as I have always found the smells too overpowering. I might give this one a go if the fragrance isn't as strong as others on the market. And if it can fragrance the laundry as well - even better!

    ReplyDelete
  52. We love using fabric conditioner, I use the make your own. Apple/Lavender it makes the clothes have a nice cuddly, nice smell and they feel so soft. I just adore the way they feel especially after being in the sun for a while.

As I have twins who are nearly 4 a voucher to Pumpkin Patch would be wonderful. We have no money currently so getting them some fab clothes for summer and next year would be ideal. My girls tend to wear Pumpkin Patch for a while due to the fact that they are small for their age, which is great as they last for ages. Love the clothes they are just so pretty.

    Love the blog

  53. I used to use fabric softener, but once we had kids, it meant another trip back to the machine mid cycle to put it in. So I haven't used it in 8 years! I'm definitely interested in giving Comfort Pure a try though - especially if it can remove the stink from my husbands basketball uniform! Thanks for the opportunity to win. I had a little boy exactly one week after Emerson was born, and being our first boy after 3 girls, I do need to buy some blue clothes! (janet@presidential.com.au)

  54. I love fabric softener. I came across an awesome laundry detergent that has fabric softener built into it which is awesome for when I'm being lazy. But using a separate softener is always more effective. Everything feels and smells divine no matter what you use. And I love Pumpkin Patch. So it's a win win :)

  55. Yep. Know all about 7 people in the family and washing woes! Since we had triplets fast tracking our family to 7, the sudden increase in washing was as sudden shock like walking out of a warm house into a snowstorm. I love softener because I hate the feeling of scratchy clothes and love the smell of the clean laundry.

    ReplyDelete

  57. I have used fabric softener on and off for years but since my premmie son came along, I now use it all the time. I was worried about the washing powder being too harsh on his skin from clothes and blankets etc, so I started using the softener and it was and is so much better. I love the smell and the feel of it!!!!!!
    Thanks :)

  58. 7 in the family washing basket....know all about. Thought it would be great when 5 of them grew up and left home. Not to be....They boomeranged back and forth and then started bring grandkids. And I still hate washing. Having lived on farms all our lives fabric softener is a godsend with the hard water and has the added bonus of the lovely fragrance in the clothes and in the laundry!!https://www.channelbankcreations.blogspot.com.au

    ReplyDelete
  59. Even with 5 in the family our washing basket is perpetually full!! I don't use fabric conditioner as I've always seen it as one more thing to add to the shopping list and I've never lived in a hard water area. And I'm also particularly sensitive to the "washing powder" smell on clothes - it's really off-putting when we get hand-me-downs, I need to wash the smell away!!

And if you find a sure-fire system to getting those clothes off the line and into the wardrobes, please share!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. i never used to use it but have since discovered it and love it, it makes all clothes lovely and soft and especially hubbies stiff work clothes so much easier to iron, will def try this stuff since its made by OMo which i love, also a pumpkin patch voucher would be great as all the kids hand me downs are looking a bit long in the tooth and with a new bubby and 3 older kids new clothes always smarten everyone up! Thanks Corrie

  61. So funny that you would write about this today Corrie, I just folded 4 and half baskets of washing for our family of 6 (& that was just 2 days worth) and my reward was a little blog reading time!
Needless to say the clothes are still in piles, but I'll get to that later :)
I don't currently use fabric softener or conditioners, but
I wonder if I used these products would my hands be so dry and crusty after all my folding? I am going to try some and see.

  62. I have always used white vinegar instead of fabric conditioner but I'm keen to try this one to get the washing smelling beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hi Corrie,
I use whie vinegar as my fabric softener at the moment. I switched not long after our son was born as the fabric softener I was using at the time was leaving grey marks on all his white clothes, towels, nappies etc. And I haven't looked back. Although I do miss the fragrance. Thanks for the opportunity.

  64. I use fabric conditioner every now and then but find it hard to find a scent that I like as some are just too overpowering. This one sounds pretty good though!

  65. I am an on and off user of fabric softener. I wash in tank water and don't often need it but when we run out of the tank water I definately need to use it then for the hard water the house runs on. The pp voucher is a very generous offer and I know my 4 yo twins would love to be able to dress their dollies in the same outfit as themselves if they were to win, because that is something we can not justify the expense of normally.

  76. Oh I would so buy the folding and putting away laundry machine if it was for sale :)

  77. I am very sporadic with fabric conditioner, sometimes I use it then I don't buy it for ages and ages guess I haven't really found one that isn't too overpowering and can be used on anything. We are a family of 6, 2 Adults, 3 teens and a 17mth old so I really need products that can be used the whole way through! We are also about to move into a slightly smaller house that currently has the bathroom and laundry combined... Very European I know but will be a culture shock to this 'big laundry space' family so anything to make it simpler will be a dream...

  79. I have ALWAYS used fabric softener in my "towels and jammies" loads to make them soft, coddly and smell pretty. I have only every used the cheaper brands though, haven't used the Cuddly brand. IF I am putting my towels in the dryer due to bad weather, I don't tend to use the softener as the dryer makes them nice and soft. WOW thank you to cuddly for their awesome give away and thank you too Corrie.

  80. I sometimes use it on towels but not regularly. I would try this one out now you've pointed it out next time I do buy fabric softener/conditioner. I usually hang my washing on the line when I can, but sometimes I need to use my drier. I will often put a little bit of softener onto a wet face-cloth in the drier to help make the washing all nice and fluffy and give it a fresher smell.

(weird I know!). I am currently using Radiant Washing Powder and due to my washing machine not draining the softener cycle, I am using Purex Crystals (which you put in the drum of the front loader rather than in the dispenser drawer). They smell sooooo good. And like you, I love washing, but I HATE putting away, so if you do find that machine that does it for you - please let me know!

  92. i have just recently converted to enjo cleaning products. they have just a wash with or without fragrance. i must say, im quietly surprised by the results! prior to this i did use softner. i found it stopped the 'static' on certain fabrics.

  93. I am addicted to fabric softener! I have to stop my top loader after the first rinse cycle and add it in separately. I am using the earth one now and it is lovely. I am now interested in trying this comfort one.

My kids also love how their clothes always feel soft on their skin and smell fresh.

  100. I have just bought a fabric softener to test out this last week! I never usually use one. I won't mention their name but it's a gentle enough for babies type one but I find the smell quite over powering!!! I would love to try some Comfort Pure, you've made it sound wonderful! Oh and what could I buy with $500 for Pumpkin Patch - my mind is working overtime with the possibilities. I think I could outfit Mathilde until she was about 5! Thanks for the chance to enter Corrie : )) mellyw@mac.com

  101. I use it especially for towels as I find it makes them nice and soft.. It also makes everything smell fresh and wonderful. I however have to be really careful when using it on clothes as my son suffers from bad eczema. Comfort Zone is now next to try for me.

The Pumpkin Patch voucher would come in extremely handy as Summer approaches. It would give my 3 children a whole new Summer wardrobe.

    Fantastic give away! :)

  104. I like to bring out the fabric conditioner when the towels get to scratchy but I use the wool wash on my babies clothes as we have rather sensitive skin in this house. I would like to give the Comfort Pure a go for that reason. As for the voucher...well that would be a lovely way to spoil my girls.

  122. I"ve never used fabric conditioner! Honestly, its only because I didn't know that you were supposed to! I lived a sheltered life at home with my parents until I was married and as a result had never done a load of washing until I was 24! So when I first started doing washing I didn't use fabric conditioner and by the time I realised that fabric conditioner existed I figured we'd been fine without it for so long so what's the point!

A Pumpkin Patch voucher! How wonderful of a gift! My little man is 12 weeks old and has grown out of all his clothes so that voucher would go a LONG way towards dressing him up nicely!

  124. I don't use fabric conditioner religiously, but did when washing for babies (Earths Choice Extra Soft Sensitive was my weapon of choice!) These days I put cheap as chips white vinegar in the conditioning thingo in the middle of the machine - this is great for towels, keeps them soft, it only smells like vinegar while they are wet and stops that 'wet musty' smell if not hung out straight away.
Pumpkin Patch - my favourite place to shop for the cutest kids clothes!! Just was able to pass on my baby clothes to a new niece, so in need of replenishing the wardrobe for my big girls and boy!

  127. The water we use for washing our clothes here is bore water which is very hard and sometimes smelly. It also make clothes stiff if hung on the line to dry, so fabric softner is a must or its the dryer with the fabric softner sheets.

After living in Europe and having to use a dryer, then returning to Australia last year, the smell of my laundry brought in from the clothesline made me insanely happy each day. 145. Hi Corrie, I am so with you on the washing issue, with our family of 6 it is never ending and the part I hate most is the folding and putting away at the end too! I use fabric softener only sometimes, mostly on towels and bed linens because it makes them smell nice. With the amount of washing I do, it would cost me a fortune to use it all the time!! Pumpkin Patch is my favourite store for kids clothes - would SO love to win!!!
P.S. Emerson is an absolute darling, give him lots of cuddles because as you know, this little baby stage disappears incredibly fast.

  153. I've always used fabric softener ... Maybe it's the fact that I grew up with a mother who added (and still adds) fabric softener to almost every wash, but the few weeks in the year when we visit her parents at Christmas - I actually go and BUY a small bottle of it to use as I can't stand wearing clothes that HAVEN'T had fabric softener go through the load ... there is just SUCH a difference!!!

1:2 mixture in spray bottle and lightly spritz curtains/carpets as room freshener

The smell is really nice and so far I haven't noticed the greasy feel to the towels. I like the fact you need to use a lot! The PP voucher would be so superb. I have had my 7 week old son in hospital with severe reflux that the doctors wouldn't diagnose for over two weeks (even though we have an extensive family history of it and my firstborn had it bad) and on top of that he got the flu so he was really sick. We are limited by the choice as I only have a small grocery store with just a few ranges. I love to go shopping in the larger towns just to be able to get a variety. I also find diluted fabric softner 1:2 great to bring dolls hair back to that just brought look. Sprayed on the dolls head and combed through, just like out of the box. (tbarn51@yahoo.com.au) Tracy
