our weekend away

Ok so yesterday I showed you all the lovely pics of the wedding and how beautiful everything was. The reality for us was taking all 7 of us out of Sydney for a weekend. Something that requires some planning, finding accommodation that sleeps us all, packing for 7 people (and the smallest members of our family require the most stuff) and trying to keep everyone happy in a small confined space without the comforts and toys from home.

I had asked my dad before the wedding to make sure, no matter what happened, that he got a photo of us all looking nice. We managed to get this one in while group photos were being taken at the wedding. But you'll now find me doing press ups and toning up my arms for the next month! Yikes!

A few of you wanted to see what I was wearing to the wedding! I didn't buy a new dress because I haven't lost a lot of weight and also because I'd be wearing emerson on me for most of the day. I wore 'old faithful' - a little black ruffle dress from Country Road, some Diana Ferrari heels that I picked up at their outlet store last year before a school black tie event and I brightened up my outfit with some bright yellow jewellery from Sussan picked out the day before the wedding.

I love this picture which is me negotiating with finn before the wedding! Unlike the girls he had no interest in waiting for the 'princess bride' to arrive. And then we have daddy with his hands full!

Elodie slept the entire service in her pram!

And to prove that I live in the real world where nothing runs smoothly. Finn decided to throw up his dinner in the early hours of sunday morning. We were staying in a private rental at the resort so it was up to me to clean up after ourselves. So I rinsed everything off, chucked it in the machine to do in the morning so as not to wake the neighbours and went to bed. I woke up early only to put the lid down on the machine and discover there was a sign saying that it was out of order. So I had to clean sheets, pillowcases and mattress protector by hand with bathroom soap. It was lovely, yes as you can imagine. A wonderful experience. Then I had to hope they would dry in time before check out in 2 hours.

And then a shelf fell in the villa!

And then as I was unpacking the dishwasher and putting away plates a shelf fell on the dishes below. Thankfully nothing broke and all I thought to myself was next time we are staying in the hotel part! But we checked out, drove home and I made a beautiful chocolate cake for Elodie's birthday.

The cake for elodie!

And everything was good in the world......until I woke up and had to deal with 4 days worth of laundry! But it's always worth it, no matter how much effort it takes us to get away and do something special......it's always worth it.

  1. You all look lovely. I remember going away when Quinlan was three weeks old. It seems like you have to take everything with you and all the kids want are their toys. I'm glad you all had a great weekend and that you got to enjoy yourself. Good luck with the diet I'm feeling your pain I'm trying to lose three babies worth because I got slack. :(

  4. What a beautiful family you are. I am in awe of how brave you are taking the whole family on a trip like that, especially with Emerson being so young. I couldn't have handled that and I only have 2 kids! You and retro Dad seem to work as a great team :)

You look just amazing (as always). I have that CR dress too - after seeing how amazing you look in it, I must dig it out and wear it again this season x

Sweet little Elodie, love how the 2 year olds still enjoy their day naps... it's our saving grace as Mama's!

  7. Wow! I know you've probably gotten sick to death of all the admiration of how amazing you are as a mumma of 5, but ... wow! I applaud you and retrodaddy!!!
You look amazing - and the dress, shoes & jewellery combination looks fantastic on you!! Its hard to believe you've gone through four pregnancies - one of which was with twins!!! Seriously Corrie - if I am blessed with another 3/4 children I *pray* to God that I look as amazing as you do this (not) long after having my last!! I don't even look that good ... and I've only had one!!
Thanks for sharing your experience, pics and the dramas! And sorry to hear about the linen!! - Seriously though, if the machine is out-of-order, they shouldn't *expect* you to have the laundry done and finished by the time you leave - even *if* you have a youngun who brings up his evening meal!!! You're a warrior girl! Keep on keeping on ... and sharing about all your adventures!! Lol! Love reading all about what life is like with a hubby, & 5 littlies!!!

  9. Sweet pictures, sweet family. I have four children (all adults now) and I remember how it was to take them away for a few nights. Something always goes wrong, but when all is said and done, there's nothing better than giving your children some wonderful family memories.
